Here is a picture from my home state Arizona. The small hill shows sedimentary rock layered through it. In Arizona you can find examples of this type of rock pretty much everywhere and with the right time of day the colors will blow you away. Looking at this picture you can see the erosion taking place from the rain water. This splash erosion is taking away the softer rocks and forming the shape of the hill.
